U.S. Eastern District of California
Federal Courts generally only hear cases involving the constitutionality of a law, involving laws and treaties of
the United States, disputes between two or more states, bankruptcy, admiralty, and habeas corpus. Federal
crimes are prosecuted in Federal Court.
Cases originating in Stanislaus County are typically heard in the Eastern District Court, which has locations in
Sacramento and Fresno. The Modesto branch of the United States Eastern District Bankruptcy Court has
closed permanently and all filings are directed to the Sacramento location.
