Stanislaus Superior Court

The self-help center (Family & Civil) is located in Room 220 of the main courthouse building, 800 11th Street Modesto. Customers are assisted on a first come, first served basis Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Email assistance is available with a 3-4 business day turn-around at  self.help@stanct.gov. Voicemail calls are returned Wednesdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Voicemail: (209) 548-6237 In addition to self-help the Court has a Small Claims Advisory service to help with questions related to small claims cases. Please see the Advisory Services information page regareding these services. The self-help center at the Stanislaus Court has numerous samples and templates available at the service counter. The Stanislaus County Superior Court website has additional information and many of those guides are also available in our guides section.

5th District Court of Appeals Building

Fifth District Court of Appeals

Appeals of cases originally filed in Stanislaus County Superior Court are generally heard in the 5th District Court of Appeals located at 2424 Cesar Chavez Blvd in downtown Fresno. The clerk’s office can be reached by telephone at (559) 445-5491. The Court of Appeals has its own appellate court self-help guide. The 5th District also has specific rules about e-filing, and local forms available here. U.S. Eastern District of California

Federal Courts generally only hear cases involving the constitutionality of a law, involving laws and treaties of the United States, disputes between two or more states, bankruptcy, admiralty, and habeas corpus. Federal crimes are prosecuted in Federal Court. Cases originating in Stanislaus County are typically heard in the Eastern District Court, which has locations in Sacramento and Fresno. The Modesto branch of the United States Eastern District Bankruptcy Court has closed permanently and all filings are directed to the Sacramento location.
